Over the weekend, the Lakers traveled to Parma to play the Cuyahoga Community College Challengers in a four game set. In game one, the Lakers managed just four hits as they were blanked 6-0. Managing single hits for the Lakers were Cody Pittenger, Alex Medina, Glavine Harper and Levi Jones. Anthony Miller pitched the complete game tough luck loss as he gave up four earned runs while striking out three batters. In game two, the Lakers hitters continued to struggle as they managed five hits. Pittenger recorded an RBI double in the seventh inning and Walker Marlowe added an RBI single in the ninth inning. Adam Samuels went two for three including a double and scored both of Lakeland's runs. Eli Brown started and took the loss for the Lakers as he threw seven innings and allowed ten earned runs. David Kalinowski pitched a scoreless inning for the Lakers.
On Sunday's game one, the Lakers offense remained in a funk as they gained just four hits. Alex Medina, Brandon Harlan, Glavine Harper, and Levi Jones collected the hits for the Lakers in the 10-3 loss. Robbie Kalinowski started and took the loss for the Lakers as he allowed seven runs in five innings. The Lakers offense finally showed some signs of life in game two as they recorded 10 hits and scored six runs in the 12-6 defeat. The Lakers scored two runs in the second inning as Hogan Pash collected an RBI on a sacrifice fly and Gino Bertolone had an RBI single. The Lakers scored a single run in the sixth inning on a Cody Pittenger RBI triple. Lakeland added three runs in the seventh inning. The key hit in the inning was a two run home run by Alex Newsome.
The Lakers will finish out the regular season as they play host to the Mercyhurst NE Saints Friday and Saturday, May 5 and 6. The doubleheaders are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on both days. Depending on the results of the upcoming league games, the Lakers may participate in the sub-District tournament which is scheduled Friday, May 12 in Dayton. This tournament would include both the OCCAC colleges and Vincennes University (IN) to determine the right to go to Districts in Michigan the following week.
