AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Lakeland baseball scored eight runs in the final two innings to come from behind to beat Eastern Gateway Community College 12-10 in the opening game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
The Lakers dropped the second game 5-4 to get a split of the doubleheader. Following the split, Lakeland's overall record moves to 6-28 and 5-11 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play. Eastern Gateway moved to 9-8 in conference play.
Lakeland 12 – Eastern Gateway 10
Lakeland trailed 9-4 heading into the eighth inning but scored eight runs in the final two innings to pull out a 12-10 victory to open the doubleheader against Eastern Gateway.
Eastern Gateway 5 – Lakeland 4
Lakeland held a 4-2 lead in the middle of the sixth but was unable to hold on as Eastern Gateway came back for a 5-4 victory to split the doubleheader.
Lakeland will host Garrett College on Tuesday, April 16 for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
