The Lakers basketball team traveled to Piqua Saturday and earned a walk off 72-70 victory. With the win, the Lakers moved to 2-0 in OCCAC play. For the second straight game, the Lakers hit a buzzer beater to earn the victory. The Lakers played an aggressive zone defense for most of the game to hold the chargers to 36% shooting on the night. The Lakers held a 1 point lead at the half before going on an 11-0 run to start the second half. The Chargers continued to chip away and went on an 8-0 run late in the half to take a 70-69 lead with just under 11 seconds to play. After a timeout, Cryshawn Waters became the second hero in two games by nailing a 3 pointer at the buzzer to give Lakeland a 72-70 victory. Waters finished with 16 points off the bench and Lakeland was led in scoring by Trevon Granger who had 22 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lakers basketball team fell short on the second game of the weekend as they were beat 111-77 in Batavia, New York against Genesee CC. The Lakers led early 28-23 before running out of steam. From there, the Cougars went on a run and led 46-27 at the half and then cruised to the victory. The cougars shot 44% from beyond the arc and out rebounded the Lakers 44-28. Granger led all scorers with 37 points and added 3 assists while Da'ron Falkner pitched in with 11 points and 9 rebounds.
The Lakers will be back in action after the holiday break when they travel to Columbus State Jan. 11. The Lakers next home game is Jan. 18, when they play host to Lorain County CC. Tip off time for both games is 7:30 p.m.
