KIRTLAND, Ohio – A fast start was nice for Lakeland Community College men's basketball but it wasn't enough to hold off No. 3 Cuyahoga Community College as the Challengers cruises to a 92-55 victory Wednesday night.
With the loss, Lakeland falls to 3-17 overall and 2-9 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.
Lakeland did get off to a blazing fast start by scoring the first eight points and held a 9-2 lead in the first five minutes. Cuyahoga then countered with 14 consecutive points to take a 16-9 lead with 12:11 left.
Burge was strong in the first half with 11 points but Cuyahoga did not let the Lakers get any more momentum in the opening half and led 44-23 at halftime.
It didn't get much better in the second half for Lakeland. Granger scored nine and Burge scored eight but the Lakers were unable to cut into the Cuyahoga defense or the lead and fell by 37 points at home.
Lakeland will hit the road on Saturday, Feb. 17 to face Edison State Community College for a game at 3 p.m.
