Freshman Brianna Prugel hit a 3 point shot as time expired in OT to give the Lady Lakers a 68-65 victory over the Lorain County CC Commodores. The drama began in the fourth quarter when the Lakers trailed by 2 points late. After a missed Lakeland lay-up attempt, Lorain grabbed the rebound and then promptly turned the ball over where freshman Alicia Sephus was able to put it in with under four seconds to play to force the overtime. The teams went back and forth throughout the OT with the early edge going to Lorain as they grabbed a 7 point lead with under 2:30 to go. Sephus then hit a bucket and that was followed by a Prugel 3 point play. Another Prugel basket sandwiched between three Lorain free throws made the score 64-61 in favor of Lorain with 51 seconds to play. A pair of Alicia Sephus' baskets put the Lakers ahead until a Lorain free throw knotted it at 65. This set the stage for Prugel as she hit the shot just beyond half court as the buzzer went off to send the Lakers to the thrilling victory. Prugel finished as the games' leading scorer with 25 points. Sephus finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds while Patricia Cistrunk scored 13 points and had a game high 21 rebounds. With the win, the Lakers improve to 5-16 overall and 2-9 in league play.
The Lady Lakeland's next game is this Saturday, Feb. 18, as they will play host to the Clark State Eagles in a 1 p.m. scheduled tilt. Admission is free to the game.
