Lakers fall short in District final against Sinclair, 65-50

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio – Lakeland women's basketball had a rough second quarter and never recovered in a 65-50 loss to Sinclair Community College Saturday afternoon in the District I final at Ohio Christian University.

With the loss, Lakeland finishes the season with a 21-10 record.

Delesha Jackson scored 13 points to lead the Lakers while Alicia Sephus scored 10 but was in early foul trouble. Julie Hajdu grabbed 11 rebounds and scored eight in the loss.

The first quarter was the brightest for Lakeland as the Lakers jumped out to an early lead with Sephus scoring six in the quarter. Ziona Williams scored a layup to give Lakeland a 13-2 lead with 5:54 left in the first.

Unfortunately for Lakeland, Sinclair went on a 34-2 run that buried the Lakers to finish off the second half. After the run, Lakeland scored a couple times but Sinclair secured a 36-20 lead at halftime.

Lakeland came out with energy in the second half but was unable to dig out of the early hole and lost by 15 points.
