The Lakeland volleyball team capped their season with an impressive 3-0 victory over the visiting Titans from the Community College of Beaver County. The scores of the sets were 25-9, 25-10, 25-9 as the Lakers improved their final record to 6-19. This was Sophomore night for the volleyball team and standout Charriel Bourns was recognized before the match. The Lakers started strong in set 1 and never took their foot off the pedal as they rolled to the victory. Bourns, Jessie Ceboll, Asia Settles, and Derria Grant controlled the front court while Brook Burrington, Abby Carlson, and Sarah Miozzi controlled the back and mid-court areas. Abby Tuttle and Janice Robinson also stepped up with some solid front court play. There was plenty to cheer about throughout the match, but the match highlight was the ending for Charriel Bourns as she was able to serve out the last 3 points for the match victory and put an exclamation point on her two year career.
Miozzi Mentions: "It was a nice way to end the season and career for Charriel Bourns. Charriel was a team leader and really learned a lot not only about volleyball, but about the importance of education, family, and life. She was one of my favorite players that I have coached as she always had such a tremendous attitude and energy. We look forward to watching her achieve great things in the future. As a team, we struggled with consistency at times throughout the season, but this team always had a positive attitude and effort. We were not far away from a lot more wins as we were competitive with some of the top teams in the league. Dropping 4 matches in 5 sets; and many sets and matches were decided by only a couple of points. I expect the returners, coupled with the incoming recruits, will help us get over that hump next season. I'm proud of our girls and their development this season and am looking forward to the continued growth next season. Thank you Char for your efforts – we will miss you – best of luck to you!"
