Lakeland baseball splits with KSU Tuscarawas

The Lakers (2-2) traveled to Kent State Tuscarawas on Tuesday for a doubleheader against the Golden Knights. Lakeland won the first game 11-4 and lost the second game 2-1 in 8 innings. In the first game, Joel Connors went 2-3 with 4 RBI's, a double, and a home run. Ben Sterritt went 2-3 with 5 RBI's, a double, and a home run. Tyler Waseleski went 2-4. Tom Kelly earned the win by pitching 6 innings allowing 5 hits, 4 runs (3 earned), and striking out 2. Dillon Baker pitched the final inning striking out 1. The Lakers jumped out to an early lead scoring 4 runs in the 1st inning. After two singles by Waseleski and Derik Diaz, Alex Ehinger brought in the 1st run on a sacfly. Later in the inning, Sterritt doubled home 2 runs, and Caleb Peck picked up the final RBI with an infield hit. Lakeland blew the game open in the second inning as Joel Connors blasted a grand slam after a hit batter and 2 walks. From there, the Lakers cruised the rest of the way. 

The Lakers lost the second game 2-1 on an unearned run in the bottom of the 8th inning. They left 15 runners on base during the game. Lakeland had only 5 hits in the nightcap with Waseleski, Peck, Connors each picking up another hit. Seth Rich and Jonathan Cook also had a hit in the loss. The Lakers lone run was scored by Diaz, who walked to start the inning, and later scored on a fielders choice by Gannon Rose. On the mound, Ehinger pitched 7 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 earned run, while striking out 7. Tyler Cerjan got the tough luck loss in this game by pitching .2 of an inning allowing 1 hit and an unearned run while striking out a batter. 

Next Up: The Lakers will visit Clark State Community College for a doubleheader on Friday, 3/26. The game will begin at 1:00 pm. On Saturday, Lakeland travels to Solon to face the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton at noon.
