The Lakeland baseball team played host to the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats today in OCCAC action. The Lakers dropped game one 22-8 before taking the nightcap by a score of 10-6. In game 1, the Lakers spotted the Bobcats a 4-0 lead with the aid of errors and walks before scoring a Bobcat aided run of their own in the bottom of the 2nd inning. The Lakers run was scored when Ray Cowen was hit by a pitch before Parker LaGreca walked. Brayden Fellouzis was then hit by a pitch to load the bases before James LaVigne was hit by a pitch scoring Cowen. The Bobcats continued to put pressure on the Lakers and grew their lead with the aid of more errors. The Lakers scored a 2 runs in the 4th inning on a 2-run homerun from Brayden Fellouzis before Ray Cowen went deep with a 3-run blast in the 6th inning.
Jackson Smith took the tough luck loss as he pitched 3 innings and allowed 8 runs (2 earned) on just 3 hits. Nathan Hawkins relieved and pitched the final 3 innings for the Lakers. Offensively, Aaron De Oleo Rivas collected 2 hits (2B) while Ray Cowen picked up a hit (HR) and 3 RBI's. Brayden Fellouzis also homered and had 2 RBI's while Wilfredo Ortiz and Parker LaGreca also picked up hits in the loss.
In game 2, the Lakers flipped the script immediately. Lakeland took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning to set the tone offensively. Ray Cowen and Wilfredo Ortiz hit back-to-back singles to get the Lakers going. Nicholas Square was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Parker LaGreca was then hit by a pitch scoring Cowen. Thomas Vokic followed with a 2-RBI double. The Lakers grew their lead to 7-0 in the 3rd inning as they scored 4 more runs. Ortiz started things with a single and then advanced to second on a passed ball. After a Square walk, LaGreca ripped an RBI-double scoring Ortiz. Square would then score on a passed ball. Tony Hall then worked a walk before Brayden Fellouzis hit an RBI-single. Hall would later score on a Bobcat error. In the top of the 6th inning, the Bobcats would score 3 runs as they took advantage of 3 issued walks. The Lakers wasted no time responding as they plated 3 runs in the home half. In the rally, Ray Cowen reached on an error before an Ortiz single. Nicholas Square then ripped a 3-run homerun to put the Lakers up 10-3. From there, the Lakers closed out the game.
Offensively, Wilfredo Ortiz had 3 hits and scored 3 runs. Thomas Vokic picked up 2 hits (2B) and 2 RBI's while Nicholas Square had a hit (HR) and 3 RBI's. Parker LaGreca and Brayden Fellouzis each had a hit and RBI while Ray Cowen and Tony Hall each picked up a hit in the Laker win.
On the mound, Lucas Nichols was dominant as he picked up the win. Nichols pitched 5.2 innings and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits while striking out 12 batters. Kaleb Corrin relieved before Aaron De Oleo Rivas picked up the save pitching 1.1 scoreless innings.
Next Up: The Lakers will travel to Bryant & Stratton tomorrow (4/19) for an OCCAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
