The Lakeland baseball team traveled to Florida late last night to face off against the Seminole State Raiders in non-league baseball action today. The Raiders (7-0) have been playing games for almost 2 weeks now and the Lakers left sub-zero temps with snow and were playing games less than 15 hours after landing in Florida. With that backdrop, the Lakers (0-2) dropped both ends of a doubleheader by the scores of 9-0 and 11-2. In game 1, Coleton Logan started and shut the Raiders down in the 1st inning. In the 2nd inning, the Raiders connected some hits along with a Lakeland error as they scored 3 runs. Logan would finish throwing 5 innings and allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits while striking out 3 batters. Dash Innes relieved and surrendered 4 runs (3 earned) in an inning. Rocco Almonte collected the Lakers only hit with a 6th inning single while Adrian Cuadrado was walked 3 times.
In game 2, the Lakers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Adrian Cuadrado got Lakeland going with a 1-out walk. Rocco Almonte would later rip an RBI-single to give the Lakers their first lead of the season. Jacob Trevena would later knock in Almonte on a hit ball that the Raiders could not handle. Lakeland's lead would not hold though as the Raiders knotted the score in the home half of the inning. The Raiders would then go ahead for good in the bottom of the second inning as they took game 2. Anthony Barbosa started and pitched 5 innings while allowing 7 runs (5 earned) on 6 hits. Kaden Stout relieved and allowed 4 earned runs in an inning. Rocco Almonte finished the game 1-2 with an RBI while Parker LaGreca worked a pair of walks for the Lakers.
Coach Krause Comments: "It is definitely a tall challenge facing a very good team when the team hasn't been outside since October. Tip your cap to the Raiders they played well. Though we made some miscues - that was kind of expected. Overall, I thought we played well - definitely saw some good things that we can build on."
Next Up: The Lakers and Raiders will go at it again tomorrow as they play a doubleheader scheduled to begin at noon.
