Baseball drop pair to Raiders

The Lakeland baseball team finished it's Florida trip getting swept by the Seminal State Raiders by the scores of 10-1 and 10-0. In game 1, Lakeland's Emmanuel Dominguez got the Lakers started with a 2-out double in the top of the first inning. Jacob Trevena followed with an RBI-single to give the Lakers an early 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, that lead would not hold as the Raiders took advantage of Lakeland's pitchers issuing 10 walks in 4 innings. The walks, combined with a couple of hits and Lakeland defensive miscues, were enough to seal Lakeland's fate in game 1. Trevena finished the game with 2 hits (double) and an RBI while Dominguez (double, run scored), Will Mijares, and Lorenzo Malcolm each added a hit for the Lakers.  Rocco Almonte started on the mound and allowed 6 earned runs in 1.2 innings on 2 hits. Logan Metz relieved and pitched 2.1 innings allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits. Landon Workman closed it out pitching 2 innings and allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits.

In game 2, Casen Smith started and allowed 7 runs (6 earned) on 4 hits in .2 innings. The Raiders took advantage of 5 walks and a hit batter as they built an early 7-0 lead. Colby Crosby relieved and pitched 5.1 inings allowing 3 runs (0 earned) on 2 hits while striking out 2 batters. Offensively, the Lakers were unable to get much going as they recorded 2 hits. Ryan Thomson and Tyson Cendrowski each singled in the loss.

Coach Krause Comments: "Tip your cap to Seminole State as they are probably one of the better teams that we will see all year. Coming down to play them when we haven't been outside - we made some mistakes and that was to be expected. It was good to compete though and a lot of guys got some opportunities - this will make us better when we get back home."

Next Up: The Lakers will head back home now and begin to prepare for their next games scheduled for February 28 - March 1 at CCBC Catonsville.
