The Lakeland baaseball team squared off against the Middlesex Colts today in non-league action at the Ripken facility in Myrtle Beach. The Lakers wound up dropping both ends of the doubleheader by the scores of 3-1 and 10-3. In game 1, Lakeland jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning when Ryan Thomson hit a leadoff triple. Thomson later score on a wild pitch. Unfortunately for the Lakers, that would be the only hit and run in the game. Anthony Barbosa pitched a solid game going the distance and allowing 3 earned runs in 6 innings while picking up the loss for the Lakers.

In game 2, the Colts took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning without a hit. Middlesex took advantage of 3 walks and a hit batter to take the lead. In the 3rd inning, the Lakers scored a run to make the score 3-1.  Brooks Baker hit a 1-out single to get the Lakers going. Baker later score on an RBI double from Lorenzo Malcolm. Middlesex would push their lead to 6-1 in the top of the 4th as they strung some hits together. In the bottom of the 4th inning, Emmanuel Dominguez hit a solo homerun for the Lakers to make the score 6-2. Lakeland would take another run on in the 5th inning as they dropped game 2. Brooks Baker worked a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a fielders choice from Ryan Thomson. Baker later scored on an RBI-single from Sam Tetley.

Jacob Trevena picked up 2 hits for the Lakers while Sam Tetley, Lorenzo Malcolm, and Emmanuel Dominguez (HR) each had a hit and RBI.  Dominic Sintic added a hit while Brooks Baker singled and scored 2 runs in the Lakers loss. Casen Smith started and took the loss for Lakeland on the hill.  After a tough first inning, Smith settled down and allowed 3 runs in 3 innings on just 1 hit. Landon Workman relieved and allowed 5 earned runs in 1.1 innings. Colby Crosby relieved and allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 1.2 innings before Kaden Stout finished the game pitching an inning and allowing 1 earned run.

Next Up:  Lakeland will have an off day tomorrow before facing Salem Community College on Tuesday (3/10) at 6:00 pm. Lakeland will follow that with a game against Sussex Community College at 9:00 pm.
