The Lakeland baseball team continued it's spring break swing in Myrtle Beach and played a doubleheader today. In game 1, Lakeland faced the Salem Community College Mighty Oaks and came away with a gritty 7-2 victory. Ethan Duncan earned the win by pitching a complete game and allowing 2 earned runs while scattering 5 hits over 7 innings. The teams were scoreless until Salem broke through and scored both of their runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. The Mighty Oaks scored 2 runs by taking advantage of a pair of walks that later scored on a single. In the top of the 5th inning, it was the Lakers turn to take advantage of their opponents mistakes. Lakeland used 3 Salem errors to plate 3 runs and take a 3-2 lead. The inning started when Jacob Trevena reached on an infield error. Lorenzo Malcolm followed with a walk before Emmanuel Dominguez ripped an RBI single. Malcolm and Dominguez would later score on more errors by the Salem defense. That score would remain until the top of the 7th inning when the Lakers exploded for 4 runs to put the game away. Emmanuel Dominguez started the inning with a leadoff double. He would advance to 3rd on a single from Ryan Thomson. Dominguez would then score on a fielders choice from Sam Tetley. Adrian Cuadrado would then double home Tetley before Josiah Cuesta hit an RBI-triple. Cuesta scored the games final run on an RBI-double from Jacob Trevena.
Emmanuel Dominguez led the way with 2 hits (2b) and an RBI for the Lakers. Adrian Cuadrado and Jacob Trevena both doubled and had an RBI while Josiah Cuesta had a triple and an RBI. Parker LaGreca also doubled while Ryan Thomson had a hit and scored a run for the Lakers. Sam Tetley also had an RBI and scored a run in the win.
Game 2 against Sussex was delayed and so did not meet the NJCAA midnight guidelines for reporting.
Next Up: After a late night tonight, the Lakers will be back at it tomorrow morning as they face Henry Ford College at 10:00 am. After a break, the Lakers will then play the St. Clair County Community College Skippers. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
