Baseball drops pair at Potomac

The Lakeland bseball team was back in action today as they traveled to Potomac State to face the Catamounts in non-league action. The Lakers finished strong last week on their spring trip in South Carolina and then came home to snow and rain - keeping them off the field another week. In game one, the Lakers were hit early as they fell into a 9-0 hole to start the game. The Catamounts recorded 3 hits in the 1st inning - but took advantge of 2 walks, a hit batter, and an error to score the 9 runs. Lakeland cut the lead to 9-2 in the top of the 2nd inning. Jacob Trevena led off with a walk. Josiah Cuesta followed with a double. Trevena then scored on a fielder's choice from Emmanuel Dominguez. Tony Hall then scored Cuesta with another fielder's choice. In the top of the 3rd inning, Lakeland scored another run to make it 9-3. James LaVigne got it started with a 1-out double. LaVigne later scored on a Parker LaGreca hit that the Catamounts defense could not handle. Unfortunately for Lakeland, that's as close as they would get as they dropped the 13-3 decision.

James LaVigne led the way offensively collecting 2 hits (double) and scoring a run. Emmanuel Dominguez and Tony Hall both had a hit and RBI while Josiah Cuesta and Lorenzo Malcolm both doubled. Ethan Duncan took the loss on the mound as he pitched .2 innings and allowed 9 runs (4 earned) on 3 hits. Colby Crosby relieved and pitched 4 innings allowing 4 runs (0 earned) while striking out 2 batters.

In game 2, Lakeland again fell into an early hole as they allowed 4 runs in the first inning. The Lakers managed 3 hits in the nightcap as they dropped a 12-0 decision. Thomas Vokic (double), Sam Tetley, and Parker LaGreca  picked up the hits for Lakeland. Coleton Logan started and took the loss allowing 7 earned runs in 4 innings on 10 hits.  Logan also struck out 6 batters. Logan Metz relieved and surrendered 5 unearned runs on 1 hit in .2 innings of work.
