The Lakers baseball team played host to the Lorain County Commodores today and earned a split to take the season series 3 games to 1. In game 1, the Lakers took an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning. Sam Tetley worked a leadoff walk to start the game and advanced to 3rd on a Lorain error from a ball hit by Adrian Cuadrado. Tetley later scored on an RBI-single form Jacob Trevena. Lorain would tie the score in the top of the 3rd before Lakeland regained the lead by scoring three runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Josiah Cuesta started the rally with a 1-out walk. Cuesta would steal 2nd base before scoring on an RBI-single from Tony Hall. Thomas Vokic would follow with an RBI-souble before scoring on an RBI-single from Brooks Baker. Lorain then scored a run in the top of the 5th inning to make the score 4-2. In a tight contest, the Lakers exploded for 9 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to end the game by a run rule. Emmanuel Dominguez started the inning with a leadoff single. Tony Hall followed with a walk before Thomas Vokic singled to load the bases. Brooks Baker than worked an RBI-walk for the Lakers. Hall and Vokic would both score on passed balls as Sam Tetley and Cameron Huang-Ince both walked to re-load the bases. Jacob Trevena then ripped a bases clearing double to center field. Josiah Cuesta walked before Emmanuel Dominguez singled to load the bases for the Lakers again. Tony Hall then ripped a bases clearing double to give the Lakers the walkoff by a final of 13-2. In the deciding inning, 10 of 11 Lakeland batters reached base.
Jacob Trevena led the way collecting 3 hits and 4 RBI's while Tony Hall finished with 2 hits and 4 RBI's. Thomas Vokic added two hits and an RBI while Brooks Baker added a hit and 2 RBI's. Emmanuel Dominguez recorded 2 hits and scored 2 runs for the Lakers. Anthony Barbosa earned the win pitching 6 innings and allowing 2 runs while striking out 4 batters.
In game 2, the Commodores started the game scoring 3 runs on no hits as they combined 4 walks, a hit batter, and a Laker error to take the early lead. In the top of the 3rd inning, Lorain expanded their lead to 6-0 as they took advantage another hit batter and error. Lorain would score 1 run in the top of the 4th inning before Lakeland battled back by scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to make the score 7-4. Josiah Cuesta had a lead off walk before Emmanuel Dominguez and Lorenzo Malcolm singled to load the bases. Cuesta then scored on an RBI-walk from Will Mijares. Brooks Baker then hit an RBI-single for the Lakers. Later in the inning, Cameron Huang-Ince hit a ball the Lorain defense couldn't handle to score Malcolm. Mijares then scored on an RBI-walk from Adrian Cuadrado. Lorain then scored a run in the top of the 6th inning before the Lakers answered with a run in the home half. Lorenzo Malcolm started the inning with a 1-out walk. Malcolm advanced to 2nd base on a single from Will Mijares before stealing 3rd base. Ryan Thomson followed with an RBI-single for the Lakers. Unfortunately for the Lakers, that's as close as they 'd get as they dropped a 12-5 decision.
Will Mijares, Ryan Thomson, and Brooks Baker each finished with a hit and RBI. Lorenzo Malcolm and Emmanuel Dominguez both added a hit in the loss. Dash Innes started and took the loss while pitching 2 innings and surrendering 6 runs (4 earned) on one hit while striking out 4 batters. Kaden Stout relieved and pitched 3 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits whiles striking out 2 batters. Casen Smith pitched the last 2 innings allowing 4 runs on 4 hits while striking out 3 batters.
Next Up: On Friday (4/3), the Lakers will head to Cuyahoga Community College for an OCCAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
