Baseball splits with Titans

The Lakeland baseball team played host to the Terra State Titans today in OCCAC play.  In game 1, the Titans scored runs in the first 4 innings to take a 5-0 lead. In the home half of the 4th inning, Lakeland got back into the game scoring 3 runs. Adrian Cuadrado hit a leadoff single to get the rally started. Jacob Trevena was then hit by a pitch before Cameron Huang-Ince knocked them both in with a 2-RBI double. Huang-Ince later scored on an RBI-single from Sam Tetley. Unfortunately for the Lakers, that's as close as they would get in dropping game 1 by a score of 7-3.

In game 1, Cameron Huang-Ince led the Lakers with 2 hits (2 doubles) and recording 2-RBI's. Sam Tetley also recorded 2 hits and an RBI. Ryan Thomson finished with 2 hits while Adrian Cuadrado added a hit and RBI. Casen Smith took the loss on the mound as he pitched 6 innings allowing 6 runs (5 earned) while striking out 7 batters. Landon Workman relieved and gave up a run in an inning while striking out 2 batters.

In game 2, the Titans took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning as they took advantage of 2 walks and an error. Lakeland wasted no time battling back as they scored 5 runs in the home half of the inning. James LaVigne started the rally with a walk. Ryan Thomson then tripled home LaVigne. Emmanuel Dominguez then singled home Thomson to tie the score. Dominguez later scored on an RBI-single from Jacob Trevena. Following a fielder's choice and stolen base from Josiah Cuesta, Cameron Huang-Ince would walk. Sam Tetley then hit an RBI-double to score Cuesta before Huang-Ince scored on a wild pitch. Lakeland scored 3 more runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take an 8-2 lead. Ryan Thomson singled before Emmanuel Dominguez was hit by a pitch. Jacob Trevena followed with a 3-run home run on a blast to left-center field. Terra responded with 3 runs in the 4th inning to make the score 8-5.

Lakeland then exploded for 6 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to go up 14-5. Cameron Huang-Ince started the inning with a leadoff single. Sam Tetley then singled before Thomas Vokic walked to load the bases. Brooks Baker and James LaVigne than both worked RBI-walks. Vokic would later score on a single from Emmanuel Dominguez. Jacob Trevena was then hit by a pitch to score Vokic. Josiah Cuesta finished out the scoring for the Lakers in the 5th with a 2-RBI single. After shutting the Titans down in the top of the 6th inning, Lakeland needed one more run to run-rule the Titans. Brooks Baker reached on an error with 1 out in the 6th. Baker would advance to 2nd on a passed ball before advancing to 3rd when the Titans couldn't handle a James LaVigne hit. Brooks would later score on another passed ball as the Lakers earned the win and the split.

Jacob Trevena (2 hits and 5 RBI's) and Emmanuel Dominguez (3 hits, 2 RBI's, and 3 runs) led the way offensively for the Lakers. Sam Tetley and Ryan Thomson both collected 2 hits and an RBI while Josiah Cuesta added a hit and 2 RBI's.
