Lakers baseball sunk by Bobcats

The Lakeland baseball team played host to the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats today and dropped both ends of the doubleheader by the scores of 6-4 and 23-5. In game 1, the Lakers fell into a 5-0 hole before scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Jacob Trevena started the inning by getting hit by a pitch. Cameron Huang-Ince followed with a single and both runners advanced on a throwing error. Emmanuel Dominguez followed with an RBI-single. Thomas Vokic was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Brooks Baker worked an RBI-walk. Sam Tetley was then hit by a pitch and the Lakers were back in the game trailing 5-3. The Lakers took advantage of the Bobcats generosity on the bottom of the 6th inning to add another run. Jacob Trevena and Cameron Huang-Ince both walked to start the inning.Thomas Vokic was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Brooks Baker followed with a bounding ball that the Bobcats could not handle and the score was 5-4. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they would leave the bases loaded. Anthony Barbosa was battling on the mound all game. Barbosa gave up a lead off double to start the 7th inning and was relieved by Colby Crosby. Crosby almost wiggled out of the inning unscathed as he recorded 2 outs before making 2 border line pitches that were called balls. Unable to get the punchout on those pitches, the Bobcats hit a single to score an insurance run as the B&S sealed the victory.

Anthony Barbosa started and took the tough-luck loss pitching 6 innings and allowing 6 earned runs while striking out 4 batters. Colby Crosby relieved and pitched 1 ining allowing 1 hit. 

In game 2, the Lakers jumped pout to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. James LaVigne led off with a double before advancing to 3rd on a wild pitch and scoring on a passed ball. After allowing 3 runs in the top of the 2nd inning, the Lakers would knot tthe score by adding 2 runs in the home half. Josiah Cuesta started things for the Lakers with a leadoff home run. Parker LaGreca would later later single and then score on an RBI-double from LaVigne. The Bobcats would then take a commanding lead in the top of the 3rd inning as they took advantage of several walks to score 7 runs. Lakeland would score 2 runs in the 5th inning, but never got back into the game. Ryan Thomson hit a lead off single before Jacob Trevena reached on an error. Thomson would score on an RBI-double from Cameron Huang-Ince. Trevena would later score on an RBI-groundout from Josiah Cuesta.

James LaVigne led the way with 3 hits and an RBI while Cameron Huang-Ince added 2 hits and an RBI. Josiah Cuesta had a hit and 2 RBI's while Ryan Thomson had a hit and scored a run for the Lakers. Parker LaGreca added a hit in the loss. Landon Workman started and took the loss pitching 2.2 innings and allowing 8 runs (7 earned). Dash Innes relieved and allowed 5 runs in 1.1 innings, Brooks Baker finished the game pitching 2 innings and allowing 10 runs (1 earned).

Next Up: The Lakers face the Bobcats again tomorrow in OCCAC action at Solon Community Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
