The Lakeland baseball team traveled to Edison State today to face the Chargers in OCCAC action. In two wild games, the teams would split as Lakeland won game one 11-7 before dropping the nightcap 14-12. In game 1, Lakeland jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. James LaVigne started the game with a single and was followed with a Sam Tetley wallk. After both runners advanced on a wild pitch, they both scored on a single by Adrian Cuadrado. Cuadrado would then steal 2 bases and later score on an RBI-single from Ryan Thomson. Edison State answered with 3 in the home half before taking a 4-3 lead in the 2nd inning. Lakeland then took a lead they would not relinquish by scoring 5 runs in the top of 3rd inning. Brooks Baker started the inning with a walk and advanced to 3rd on a single from Ryan Thomson. Emmanuel Dominguez then scored Baker on an RBI-single. Parker LaGreca followed with a single to Plate Thomson before Thomas Vokic worked a walk to load the bases. Sam Tetley then reached on an error and scored both Dominguez and Parker. Vokic would later score on a sac fly from Josiah Cuesta. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Edison would score 2 more runs before adding another run in the 5th to make the score 8-7. The Lakers salted the game away by scoring 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning. Lakeland would load the bases on singles from James LaVigne, Sam Tetley, and Adrian Cuadrado. Josiah Cuesta then knocked in LaVigne witha a sac fly. A walk from Ryan Thomson loaded the bases again before Emmanuel Dominguez ripped a 2-RBI single to put the game away.
Jack Argie started on the mound and pitched 3 innings allowing 6 runs. Kaden Stout relieved and earned the win as he pitched 4 outstanding innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit. Ryan Thomson led the Lakers with 3 hits and an RBI. Emmanuel Dominguez finished with 2 hits and 3 RBI's while Adrian Cuadrado added 2 hits and 2 RBI's. James LaVigne finished with 2 hits and a run while Sam Tetley collected a hit and 2 RBI's. Parker LaGreca picked up a hit and RBI while Josiah Cuesta added 2 RBI's.
In game 2, Lakeland took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Sam Tetley and Adrian Cuadrado worked walks before Josiah Cuesta scored Tetley with an RBI-single. After the Chargers tied the score in the home half, Lakeland would go up 3-1 in the top of the 2nd inning. Emmanuel Dominguez led off with a single before coming all the way around to score on a single from Will Mijares that was compounded by a Charger error. Mijares later scored on an RBI-single from James LaVigne. Edison scored a run un the 3rd and 2 more in the 4th inning to take a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Chargers would score 7 runs as they took advantage of 4 walks and a hit batter. Trailing 11-3, Lakeland would score 2 runs on the top of the 6th inning. Cameron Huang-Ince started the inning with a single. Consecutive 2-out walks from Parker LaGreca and James LaVigne loaded the bases. Sam Tetley and Adrian Cuadrado both followed with RBI-walks. The Charges answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th to make the score 14-5. The Lakers did not quit. In the 7th inning, Brooks Baker started the rally with a single before Huang-Ince reached on an error. Emmanuel Dominguez then singled home Baker to make the score 14-6. Parker LaGreca later singled to load the bases. James LaVigne followed with RBI-walks to make the score 14-7. Adrian Cuadrado hit a sac fly to score LaGreca before Josiah Cuesta hit a 2-RBI-single to make the score 14-10. Brooks Baker would then reach on an error before Cameron Huang-Ince hit a 2-RBI single to make the score 14-12. Unfortuantely for the Lakers, they would leave the tying runners on base as they dropped game two.
Josiah Cuesta had 2 hits and 3 RBI's while Cameron Huang-Ince recorded 2 hits and 2 RBI's. Emmanuel Dominguez and Will Mijares both picked up 2 hits while James LaVigne finished with a hit and 2 RBI's. Parker LaGreca added a hit and RBI in the defeat. Dominic Sintic started on the mound and took the loss as he was charged with 10 runs (8 earned). Tim Pozsgai relieved and pitched 2.1 innings while allowing 4 runs.
Next Up: The Lakers will continue their road swing as they visit the Clark State Eagles in an OCCAC doubleheader on Friday (5/1). First pitch is scheduled for noon.
