Lakeland baseball splits with Clark State

The Lakeland baseball team finished their away slate with a doubleheader at Clark State today. The Lakers split the games with the Eagles as they won game one 10-8 in 9 innings before dropping the nightcap 3-1. Lakeland took advantage of 2 Clark errors to take a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning. Sam Tetley started the rally when he reached on an error. Tetley advanced to second on an Adrian Cuadrado walk before Josiah Cuesta singled to load the bases. Brooks Baker than reached on an error that allowed Tetley to score. Baker then scored on a sac fly from Ryan Thomson before the bases were cleared on a 3-run homer from Lorenzo Malcolm. Clark State score a run in the home half before the Lakers added anothe run in the top of the 2nd inning. James LaVigne led off with a walk and advanced to 3rd on consecutive singles from Tetley and Cuadrado. Josiah Cuesta then hit a sac fly to score LaVigne. Clark State then took advantage of a passed ball and an error to score 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning to make the score 6-4. With the Lakers leading 6-5, they would tack on another run in the top of the 5th inning. Ryan Thomson and Lorenzo Malcolm started the inning with consecutive singles. Thomson would later score on a double play grounder.

In the top of the 6th inning, Lakeland added another run to take an 8-5 lead. Brooks Baker was hit by a pitch to start the inning before Ryan Thomson wes walked. Baker later scored on an RBI-double from Lorenzo Malcolm. Ethan Duncan came out in the 7th inning hoping to get the complete game win. Unfortunately, he was touched up for 3 runs as the Eagles tied it at 8. Colby Crosby then entered to pitch and shut the door on the Eagles. The game remained tied until the top of the 9th inning when the Lakers broke thru. James LaVigne and Sam Tetley started the inning with walks. They would both advance on a wild pitch before LaVigne scored on a go-ahead sac fly from Josiah Cuesta. Ryan Thomson added an insurance run when he singled home Tetley. Crosby then finished with a perfect 3 up and 3 down to close out the win.

In game 1, Lorenzo Malcolm led the way collecting 3 hits and 4 RBI's while Ryan Thomson finished with 2 hits and 2 RBI's. Josiah Cuesta recorded a hit and 2 RBI's while Parker LaGreca picked up 2 hits. Brooks Baker had a hit and RBI while Sam Tetley had a hit and 2 runs scored. Adrian Cuadrado had a hit and scored a run while James LaVigne scored 2 runs in the victory. Ethan Duncan started on the mound and pitched 6.1 innings allowing 8 runs (6 earned) while striking out 6 batters. Colby Crosby relieved and picked up the win pitching 2.2 scoreless innings.

In game 2, the Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as they took advantage of a Laker error. The Eagles would grow the lead to 3-0 in the 3rd inning as they were aided by another Laker error. Lakeland would leave runners on in scoring position in two innings before finally scoring in the top of the 7th inning. Ryan Thomson hit a leadoff double and advanced to 3rd base on a passed ball. Thomson later scored on a sac fly from Cameron Huang-Ince

Anthony Barbosa pitched a complete game and took the tough luck loss allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on just 3 hits while striking out 4 batters. Ryan Thomson and Josiah Cuesta each collected two hits for the Lakers. Parker LaGreca picked up a hit while Cameron Huang-Ince recorded the Lakers RBI.  

Next Up: The Lakers final games of the year have been pushed to Sunday (5/3) due to field conditions from the rain. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
