The Lakeland men's soccer team opened is seaon by traveling to Muskegon Community College to take on the defending conference champion Jayhawks. The Lakers (1-0) came away with a hard fought 2-1 victory. Muskegon jumped on top by converting a penalty kick in the 9th minute of play. Lakeland tied it at the 28th minute on a great goal from Omani Leacock that was assisted by Niklas Gothe.
The winning goal was scored in the 60th minute after the Lakers were awarded a free kick just outside the 18 yard box. Leacock took the kick and after the intitial save, Shakeel Browne tucked in the rebound for the game winning goal.

Next up: The Lakers travel to Oberlin College on Wednesday to take on the Division 3 powerhouse Yeomen. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
