The Lakeland men's soccer team continued the road trip today as they traveled to Jamestown Community to face the Jayhawks. The Lakers used a strong defensive effort along wih some precision passing to beat the Jayhawks by a final of 3-0. Abram Gutierrez got the Lakers going 6 minutes into the contest when he intercepted a pass back to the Jayhwaks keeper and swiftly beat him. At the 35 minute mark, Bryan Perez scored to make it 2-0.  On the play, Roman Sonnie received a pass out of the air, turned, and sent a pass 20 yards across the box to Perez who one-timed it in for the goal. The score would remain 2-0 at the break. In the second half, the Lakers would play strong defense as they shut down the Jayhawks offense. With 10 minutes to play, Gutierrez would receive a pass from Nicholas Swinarski. Gutierrez would then take on the Jayhawks defender and keeper - beating them both - for the final 3-0 score. Michael Mortach made 5 saves in picking up the shutout win.

Coach Torres Talks: "The team really defended well. We stayed compact and organized the whole game. We are really happy with the clean sheet. We started off hot today - full pressure from the team. Really a great team effort and we have to give a shout out to Michael (Mortach) for getting the shutout. We realize that play is going to amp up from here. We have a real challenge ahead of us with the next couple of road games. We'll enjoy this today and then get back at it so we are ready to compete Wednesday."

Next Up: The soccer team will continue the early heavy road schedule as they head to Schoolcraft College on Wednesday (10/10) to face the Ocelots in a 2:00 pm match.
