The Lakers soccer team dropped a hard-fought 3-0 decision today to the Redhawks of Lake Michigan. The first half was a tightly contested match as the Lakers played more of a possession game while the Redhawks tried to either chip over or split the defenders for their offensive opportunities. Both teams had chances in the first half, but neither team was able to break thru as the score was 0-0 at the half.

In the second half, the Lakers attempted a 30-yard shot on goal which the Redhawks countered on to get the ball deep into Laker territory. The Redhawks scored their first goal when their forward got free on the right side and beat the Laker keeper from about 12-yards out. Lakeland continued to pressure Lake Michigan as the Lakers outcornered the Redhawks 6-2. Lakeland's best scoring chance came on a corner as the kick went over he keeper and then a scramble ensued in front. The Lakers missed a few opportunities to score on the play while the Redhawks missed chances to clear the ball. Eventually in the scrum, the Lakers were whistled for a foul ending the threat. Shortly after that play, the Redhawks were starting to put pressure on Lakeland. On the Redhawks second goal, the Laker defender went to clear the ball and the clearing kick went off of a Redhawk forward and into the net. After that, the Lakers continued to press up to create offensive pressure which exposed them defensively as the Redhawks continued to look to split the defense. Lake Michigan was finally able to do so in the final minute of the game to seal the win.

Nicholas Swinarski, Bryon Perez, Christian Guerra, and Aly Sidibe each recorded 2 shots for the Lakers while Roman Sonnie took the loss in net.
