The Lady Lakers volleyball team played host to the Clark State Eagles on Saturday and dropped a 3-0 decision (16-25, 13-25, 24-26). Game 1 was a back and forth affair early on. The teams traded points and with the scored tied at 9, the Eagles put a little run together to take a 12-9 lead. Adrienne DiPierro then served the Lakers back to 12-11. Clark State then scored the next 5 points to take a commanding 17-11 lead. After trading points, Mia Eckliff served 2 points to make it 18-14. The Eagles served 3 more points before Allison Seames countered with 2 points of her own. Th Eagles then served out the game. Game 2 was different in that the Eagles jumped out to the early 6-1 lead and never really looked back as they coasted to the win. Game 3 was a tremendous game where neither team could pull away. Every time one team would go ahead by a point or two, the other team would counter and pull back ahead. With the score tied at 20, the Eagles took the 21-20 lead before Arion Brown served up a couple of points to give the Lakers the 22-21 lead. After Clark State tied it at 22, Lakeland took the lead again at 24-22 with DiePierro on the line. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they could not close it out and after the turnover and the Eagles were able to serve the game out for the victory.
Miozzi Mentions: "We battled..didn't quit after a rtough second game - we just weren't able to close it out. I was very pleased with their effort - especially in the 3rd game."
Next Up: The Lakers travel to Toledo on Wednesday to take on the Owens Community College Express at 6pm.
