The Lakeland volleyball played host to the Jamestown Jayhawks today in non-league action and came away with a convincing 3-0 (25-4, 25-17, 25-12) victory. Lakeland used a strong service game and net play to jump out on the Jayhawks early in game one. The team worked great together as they defended and set each other up as they rolled to the opening set win. In the second set, the Lakers started off slowly as the Jayhawks were determined to make it a better game. However, Lakeland stayed calm as they gathered themselves and took the match over for the win. In set 3, the Lakers again jumped out to an early lead and coasted to the victory.
Lakeland had a very balanced attack as Sydney Park led the way with 11 kills and 6 digs. Taylor Williams-Stevens and Alyssa Lino each recorded 7 kills and 2 blocks. Williams-Stevens also recorded 6 aces on the night. Abby Karasek had a strong overall game as she finished with 6 kills, 4 aces, and 3 digs. Mikayla Polefko added 3 kills and 2 digs for the Lakers. Zoe Babnik led the team with 8 digs while Gianna Biondolillo picked up a pair of digs and a kill. Samantha Winter continued her strong overall play as she had numerous assists for the Lakers.
Coach Watts' Word: "We really came out fast tonight which was great to see. In the second game, we got a little complacent, but we did a nice job recovering and really played consistently during the 3rd game. It was a nice overall team effort. We have a tough weekend coming up and so we will focus on a few things in practice and then get back at it. This is a good start - I'm looking forward to our team continuing to grow."
