The Lakers traveled to Kent State Tuscarawas today to face the Golden Eagles in non-league action. Despite strong net play, the Lakers faltered some with their serves and they were unable to recover from the errors as they fell by a score of 3-0 (16-25, 13-25, 19-25).
Sydney Park finished with 13 kills and 10 digs while Taylor Williams-Stevens added 5 kills and 2 blocks. Abby Karasek recorded 2 kills and 20 digs while Alyssa Lino picked up 4 kills, a block amd an ace. Zoe Babnik finished with a team high 32 digs while Gianna Biondolillo had 13 digs. Mikayla Polefko chipped in a pair of blocks and 4 digs while Samantha Winter picked up a kill, 2 digs, and numerous assists.
Players of the Game: Taylor Williams-Stevens and Mikayla Polefko Coach Watts commented, " Taylor (Williams-Stevens) was a force tonight both offensively and defensively. She has gotten so much stronger in the middle - proud of her. Mikayla (Polefko) also had a good game tonight as she gave us some big blocks. Really nice to see her step up."
Coach Watts' Word: "Tonights game didn't go as we hoped. We missed a lot of opportunities with our serve and our defense just wasn't as strong as normal. Our net play was really good though and we had some amazing blocks that helped keep us in the match. We'll regroup over the next couple of days as we get ready to play some really strong teams over the weekend - really looking forward to the challenge."
Next Up: The Lakers will travel to Grand Rapids this weekend to play in the Raiders Tournament. On Saturday (10/4), the Lakers will play Carl Sandburg College and host Grand Rapids. On Sunday (10/5), the Lakers will face McHenry County College and Lake Michigan.
