The Lakeland baseball team traveled to Sandusky today to play the Terra State Titans in OCCAC action. In what was a tough day for the Lakers defensively, Lakeland dropped both ends of the doubleheader by the scores of 16-3 and 9-2. In game 1, the Lakers fell into a 6-0 hole in the 1st inning. The Titans took advantage of 3 hit batters and 2 walks to build their lead. The Titans scored 4 more in the second inning as they took advantage of a walk and a Lakeland error. In the top of the 4th inning, the Lakers broke through with a pair of runs. Lorenzo Malcolm reached by error to start the rally. Tony Hall then walked before Brooks Baker hit a fielder's choice. James LaVigne followed with a 2-run double to put the Lakers on the board. Lakeland would add one more run in the 5th inning when Tony Hall worked a bases loaded walk.
James LaVigne led the way offensively with two doubles and 2 RBI's. Jacob Trevena added a hit while Tony Hall picked up an RBI in the loss. Anthony Barbosa started and took the loss on the mound pitching 1.1 innings and allowing 10 runs (9 earned) on 7 hits. Colby Crosby relieved and pitched 2.2 innings allowing 6 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits while striking out 3 batters.
In game 2, Lakeland's Dash Innes was pitching masterfully as the Lakers staked him to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning. Dominic Sintic hit a leadoff single to start the inning. Adrian Cuadrado would later hit a 2-out single before Jacob Trevena hit an RBI-single. Lakeland expanded their lead to 2-0 in the top of the 5th inning. Cameron Huang-Ince started the inning by reaching on an error. Adrian Cuadrado would later single before Thomas Vokic hit an RBI-single. On the mound, Innes had a no-hitter going thru 4 innings. In the bottom of the 5th inning, the Titans evened the score without a hit as they took advantage of a few Lakeland errors. Kaden Stout came in to pitch the 6th inning and allowed 7 runs (2 earned) as the Lakers defense continued to struggle.
Adrian Cuadrado and Dominic Sintic both had 2 hits while Jacob Trevena and Thomas Vokic each recorded a hit and RBI. Dash Innes took a no-decision as he pitched 5 no-hit innings and allowed no earned runs while striking out 10 batters. Kaden Stout took the loss allowing 7 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits in 1 inning pitched.
Next Up: Due to the weather, the next games have been moved to Sunday (4/12) against the Terra State Titans. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
