The Lakeland softball team traveled to Edison State to play the Chargers in a doubleheader today. The Lakers split the games winning game one 5-2 before dropping the nightcap 15-7. With the split, Lakeland's record is now 13-8-1 (13-6-1). In game one, the Lakers fell into a 2-0 hole in the 2nd inning as Edison took advantage of an error. The score remained 2-0 until the top of the 6th inning when Lakeland exploded for 5 runs. Mia Cipriano got things started by ripping a solo home run to lead off the inning. Bailey Cravens and Madison Tatka would follow with singles and Cravens would later score the tying run on a wild pitch. Gina Grandini would single and steal second base. Casey McHugh later doubled them both home to give the Lakers the lead. Lindsey Fergus then scored Mchugh on an RBI single. 

The Lakers pounded out 14 hits in game one. Mia Cipriano led the way going 3-4 with the home run. Casey Mchugh went 2-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's and Madison Tatka added 2 hits in the win. Bailey Craven had a dominant performance on the mound as she hurled 7 innings picking up the win allowing 2 runs (0 earned) while striking out 3 batters.

In game two, Lakeland jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning. Lindsey Fergus would get things started with a leadoff triple. She scored on a Tatianna Matuz RBI single. Mia Cipriano then singled before Matuz scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Madison Tatka would hit a sac fly to right to score Cipriano. The Chargers would bounce right back though as they responded with some hits to score 5 runs and take a 5-3 lead after 3 full innings. In the top of the 4th, Lakeland would answer right back scoring 4 runs to take a 7-5 lead. Georgia Biggs led off with a solo home run. Casey McHugh would hit a double and later score on a wild pitch. Lindsey Fergus and Tatianna Matuz would both single and then score on Mia Cipriano's 2-RBI single.

Lakeland recorded 12 hits in game two. Tatianna Matuz and Mia Cipriano both finished with 3 hits. Cipriano added 2 RBI's while Matuz scored 3 times. Lindsey Fergus collected 2 hits (triple and 2 runs) while Casey McHugh finished with 2 hits (3rd double of the day). Georgia Biggs started on the mound and pitched 2.1 innings allowing 6 hits and 5 runs (4 earned). Lindsey Wallace relieved and was the tough luck losing pitcher throwing 1.1 innings and allowing 7 hits and 10 runs (5 earned). Bailey Cravens relieved and picked up the final out. 

Next Up: On Tuesday (5/3), the Lakers will host the Clark State Eagles in a makeup doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
