In two scores that were not indicitive of the games, the Lakers dropped a doubleheader at Cuyahoga today by the final scores of 9-1 and 8-0. In game 1, the Lakers defense let them down as Cuyahoga took a 5-0 lead after 4 innings. In two of the 3 innings the Triceratops scored in, the Lakers were a play away from getting out of the inning unscathed. Unfortunately, the Lakers did not make the plays defensively as Tri-C built their lead. In the top of the 5th inning, Lakeland finally broke thru for a run. Karli Cunningham got the Lakers going with a single to right field. Sydney Plotts then hit a ball that the Tri-C defense could not handle before Lauryn Hawkins hit an RBI-single. That would be all the offense the Lakers would muster as they dropped game 1.
Lauryn Hawkins led the way recording 2 hits and and RBI for the Lakers. Sydney Plotts, Emalee Harala, Emerson Hren, and Karli Cunningham all added hits in the loss. Lakeland left runners in scoring position in 3 of the 5 inings and a runner on in another. Opportunities were abundent, the Lakers just didn't pick up the clutch hit. Abby Schneider took the loss on the mound allowing 9 runs (6 earned) while striking out 2 batters.
Game 2 was a tight game early. Again, the Lakers put runners on in each of the first 3 innings, but again, they did not come through with the clutch hit. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Cuyahoga got on the board as they took advantage of a Lakeland error. In the top of the 4th inning, the Lakers put 2 runners, but were unable to break through. Cuyahoga took advantage by scoring 4 runs in the 4th as they capitalized on a couple of hits and a Lakeland error. The Lakers were unable to break through as they dropped game 2.
Karli Cunningham and Emalee Harala each had two hits for the Lakers while Carmen Alvarez added a hit in the loss. Leah Richter took the tough luck loss on the mound for the Lakers.
Next Up: On Monday (4/20), the two team will square off again in a 3:00 pm doubleheader at Laker Field.
