Lakers softball falls to Titans

The Lakeland softball team traveled to Terra State today and fell to the Titans by the scores of 7-3 and 8-1. In game 1, the Titans took a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning. The Lakers battled back by scoring 2 runs in the top of the 4th inning. Carmen Alvarez led the inning off with a single. Emalee Harala and Natalie Phillips followed with consecutive singles to load the bases. Leah Richter then ripped a 2-run double to center. The Titans would tack on 3 more runs in the home half as they took advantage of a Lakeland error. In the top of the 5th inning, Lakeland would score another run to make the score 6-3. Madison Ciammaichella started the inning reaching on an error. Ciammaichella would later score on an RBI-single from Carmen Alvarez. Unfortunately for the Lakers, that's as close as they would get as they dropped game 1.

Carmen Alvarez went 4-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Emalee Harala added 2 hits while Leah Richter had a double and 2 RBI's. Abby Schneider, Natalie Phillips, and Sydney Plotts all picked up a hit for the Lakers. Leah Richter pitched a complete game and took the loss allowing 7 runs (5 earned) in 6 innings.

In game 2, The Lakers took an early 1st inning lead as Carmen Alvarez blasted a home run. The Lakers gave the lead away in the home half as the Titans took advantage of a key Laker error to score 2 runs. Lakeland would then struggle to get a key hit in clutch situations as they left runners in scoring position in three of the next 6 innings. Carmen Alvarez went 3-3 (a triple short of the cycle) to lead the Lakers offensively. Natalie Phillips also added a hit in the Lakers loss. Abby Schneider took the loss on the mound pitching 6 innings and allowing 8 runs (4 earned) while striking out 5 batters.

Carmen Alvarez went 7-7 on the day totaling 11 bases.

Next Up: On Monday (4/27), the Lakers will travel to John Carroll University to play the JV team in a 3:00 pm game.
