The Lakeland softball team played host to the Edison State Chargers today on Laker Field. Lakeland would drop both ends of the doubleheader by the scores of 12-0 and 14-2, but the energy, effort, and ledership of the sophomores will be remembered for years to come. In game 1, Abby Schneider started on the mound and pitched 4 innings allowing 6 runs (5 earned). Madison Ciammaichella relieved and pitched 2 innings allowing 6 runs (3 earned). In game 2, Edison took a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning before Carmen Alvarez ripped a solo blast in the home half to make the score 2-1. Edison would add a run in the top of the 2nd inning to take a 3-1 lead. Madison Ciammaichella responded by blasting a home run to straight away center field to bring the Lakers within a run at 3-2 after 2 innings of play. That's as close as Lakeland would get as they dropped game 2.
Lakeland is very proud of it's sophomores. Carmen Alvarez, Madison Ciammaichella, Emalee Harala, Lauryn Hawkins, Emerson Hren, Sydney Plotts, Leah Richter, and Abby Schneider have represented their families, the college, and themselves brilliantly and we wish them the best of luck in their future. Lakers forever!
