The Lakeland women's basketball team played host to the Cuyahoga Triceratops in OCCAC action tonight and got off to a slow start as they fell by a final of 92-60. Lakeland committed 2 turnovers, fouled a shooter, and missed a shot in their opening 4 possessions and the Triceratops took advantage jumping out to an 11-0 lead. The rest of the night didn't go much better for the Lakers as they were unable to match the energy level and the shooting of a hot Tri-C team. Cuyahoga made six 3-pointers in the first half and the Lakers were unable to recover from their start in dropping the game tonight.
Lakeland finished with 3 players in double digits. Monetta Hilory led the way with 16 points while Kanija Kimbrough (13 points) and Joh'niqua Clay (12 points) also had solid games for the Lakers. Kennedy Coleman finished with 9 points while Arianna Vera and Gabriella Moore each finished their night with 4 points. Emerson Hren also chipped in a bucket in the Laker loss.
Coach Gardy's Gab: "It was a slow start and it just snowballed. Give credit to Tri-C as they really came to play and we just weren't able to match up with them tonight. We have another challenge coming up on Saturday and so we have to get this turned around quickly."
Next Up: On Saturday (2/7), the Lakers will travel to Piqua, OH to face the Edison State Chargers in OCCAC action. Tip off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
