The Lakeland women's basketball team traveled to Clark State today to face the Eagles in OCCAC action and came away with a hard-fought 57-41 victory. With the win, the Lakers improve to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play. In the 1st quarter, the Lakers had a balanced scoring attack as 6 different players scored to stake them to a 16-13 lead. In the second quarter, the teams battled back and forth with neither team able to take control. Lakeland went into the break leading 29-24. In the 3rd quarter, the Lakers took advantage of Kanija Kimbrough and Monetta Hilory (4 points each) to grow their lead to 39-27. Lakeland's Monetta Hilory and Kennedy Coleman (6 points each) helped the Lakers take control in the 4th quarter as the Laker's cruised to the final victory.
Lakeland had 3 players finish in double digits. Monetta Hilory (15 points) led the way for the Lakers. Kanija Kimbrough finished her afternoon with 14 points while Kennedy Coleman added 12 points for Lakeland. Gabriella Moore recorded 6 points while both Joh'niqua Clay and Arianna Vera chipped in 4 points. Raegan Perkins-Hirz added a bucket and helped control the boards in the Lakers win.
Next Up: The Lakers will play host to to the SUNY Niagara Thunderwolves on Monday night in non-league play. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
