Women's basketball grounded by Hawks

The Lakeland women's basketball team traveled to Hocking College today and suffered an 88-42 defeat to the Hawks. With the loss, Lakeland's record falls to 13-10 overall and 7-4 in OCCAC play. The Lakers were playing their third game this week that included two lengthy trips. That combination, plus a short bench, put the Lakers in a situation that they could not overcome. Though Lakeland battled early, they were unable to match Hocking's depth - especially on the glass. The Hawks also used defensive pressure to create Laker turnovers as they built their lead and took the game.

Lakeland was led offensively by Monetta Hilory who finished with 14 points. Kennedy Coleman recorded 9 points while Joh'niqua Clay added 7 points for the Lakers. Arianna Vera finished her afternoon with 5 points while Raegan Perkins-Hirz chipped in 4 points in the defeat.

Coach Gardy's Gab: "Tough game for us - short-handed and another long trip. Credit Hocking as they came after us and played well. It was their sophomore day and so they played with a lot of energy. We'll look to regroup quickly as we have a tough one coming up on Wednesday."

Next Up: The Lakers will travel to Edison State on Wednesday (2/25) for their final conference game of the season. Clark State has cancelled the remainder of its season due to injuries and so next Saturday's game has been cancelled for the women. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
